The Department of Agada Tantra, KTG Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital organized a World No Tobacco Day Awareness Program on 8 June 2026 with the objective of educating students and the public about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoting a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Sridhar B. S., Principal, KTG Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital*. In his presidential address, he appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to actively participate in public health awareness activities. He emphasized that the younger generation has a vital role in creating a tobacco-free society through education and community outreach.
An awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Vedamurthy Hiremath Sir, who explained the social and health-related consequences of tobacco addiction. He stressed the importance of self-discipline, awareness, and collective efforts in preventing tobacco use among youth.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Akshatha B. S., Founder and Chief Consultant of Shree Clinic, Mallasandra, delivered an informative session on the ill effects of tobacco on health. She discussed the association of tobacco consumption with cancer, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular diseases, infertility, and several other chronic illnesses. She also highlighted the importance of early cessation and preventive measures in reducing the burden of tobacco-related diseases.
As a part of the event, Dr. Shrivanitha Mam, Professor &HOD department of Agada Tantra, administered the Anti-Tobacco Pledge, where all participants pledged to refrain from tobacco use and to spread awareness about its harmful effects among their families and communities.
Students and faculty members actively participated in the program, making it a meaningful and impactful awareness initiative.
The programme concluded successfully with a vote of thanks and a collective commitment to support a tobacco-free environment and encourage healthier lifestyle choices for the well-being of society.
